The production team at The Make A Difference Trust wanted to incorporate a scoreboard into the 2009 and 2010 events. This piece of software was created to fulfil the exact requirements and design set by the Director, Jason Capewell. The scoring was similar to Eurovision, but had to be customised to cater for a different number of shows as well as a different number of awarding panels.
The user interface was designed around very quick data entry. Multiple methods of data validation were used to prevent erroneous data being input. Scores were calculated on the fly, and the graphic output was updated instantly using existing VB controls as well as freely available third party objects.
The software is written in VB, with DAO access to a Microsoft Access database. The event was run from an Apple Mac Mini, running Parallels installed with Windows XP. Two monitor outputs, one for the GUI and one for the output. All data could be rapidly altered directly in Access as a failsafe.
For the 2010 event, the scoreboard was given a new look, with updated graphics and layout.
